How To Scrapbook Using Grids

This month we are going to look at making grids with your pictures. I like doing this because it allows you to use multiple pictures on one scrapbooking page, without over crowding it. For this reveal I have used 6-9 pictures on each of my layouts.


Around the Page
My first picture grid I like to call around the page, because the photos form a grid around the page with your title in the center.


For this layout I started with 9 pictures trimmed to approximately 3x3.

I placed my pictures on my background paper, the reverse side of  Little Flowers by Echo Park, around the page touching each other leaving the center open, creating a square. In this space I cut and matted some complimentary cardstock to approximately 5 X 2 1/2, this is the space I used for my title.

I then added my title and embellished my page using Making the Team Alpha + bits from Bella Blvd.

Collage Style
For this page I started with six photos, that I cropped to approximately 2 1/2x 2 1/2:

I matted these pictures touching each other, on Learning Paper from Fancy Pants, as you might do a collage photo. I then placed this large mat on top of my background. For my background I used Too Cool  and New Shoes.

I then embellished my page using pieces from Cards Paper. I tried to stay with the grid style when placing my embellishments.

Separated Grid
For this page I started with six pictures trimmed to approximately 3x3. I matted each photo separately on black card stock.
 

Then I created my background using layers of paper from Happy Days By Echo Park:

I kept a space in the center of my photos and created a grid using strips of this blue paper.
 

 

 
I used the space between the pictures to make my title. Then I completed my scrapbooking page using accent embellishments from Happy Days by Echo Park.

Paper Crafting With October Afternoon's Boarding Pass

I have been traveling a lot lately, so when I saw Boarding Pass by October Afternoon, I was excited to use it for my reveal.  (If you look closely, however, you will see that only one of these layouts is about a recent trip.  Apparently you need to actually PRINT the pictures from those).  


The line is in true October Afternoon style.  There are a few travel related papers, and then they compliment the rest of the line with versatile and complimentary papers.  As always, the embellishments from October Afternoon are incredible. 


I bought almost everything that they carried, and used almost all of it in my layouts. (Well, except the things that said PARIS, as I have never been there.)


My first layout is of a trip that I took in January.  I met up with three AMAZING women and we stayed right on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico on Captiva Island.  Even though the trip was in January, we set up a Christmas tree in our cottage, and one morning exchanged gifts.  


Jules gave us all stockings with different "toppers" .  Mine had a reindeer, Janet got a sock monkey and Clare's had a COW.  (Which I think I should have gotten, because I am from Wisconsin, but apparently she loves Clare the best.)  The "Palm Beach Girl" from Florida was perfect for this layout. 



 
This next layout is from last year's family vacation to South Dakota.  I LOVED the car chipboard, except it reminded me of the 16 hours in the car each way.  Then I didn't like it so much.  (Actually, I still did love it!)  I also loved the little touristy guy with the mountains.  I loved ALL of those chipboard guys, as you will see.
 



This layout describes a trip to visit Jules and Gene a couple years ago.  When I looked at the variety of stickers, rubons, and other embellishments, I got the idea to do a fun and different kind of layout - telling a story through embellishments.  Here is the story:  I went to the airport. (airplane).  I got stopped in security, and got frisked because I was bringing a gift of spices to them for letting me stay at their home.  


Security thought I was a drug dealer, and searched me, my bag, and wiped all the spice containers with a special wipe to see if I was traveling with illegal drugs.  Me.  The mom of 4 who doesn't even have time to breathe, much less deal drugs.  So...I got to go.  I had to run to the gate; got on the plane, and arrived in Paradise (see the palm tree?)...and was picked up by my friends.  See how much fun a layout of mostly embellishments can be?
 

This next layout is about a girl that is near and dear to my heart.  She has drive and ambition, and strives hard to achieve every goal that she sets for herself.  She is an inspiration to me and to all of my children.  She set out to get her motorcycle license and then bought a motorcycle with money that she earned.  I used the world map paper to signify that she's able to go anywhere with her determination.

October Afternoon has kept their usual quality and diversity in this line.  I highly recommend it for any traveling layouts that you are going to be scrapbooking soon.  Just remember to print out those pictures.

Paper Crafting With Travel Light By We R Memory Keepers

If you plan any trips this summer, short or long, near or far away, this line of products by We R Memory Keepers is the go to product to scrap your trip.  It is also perfect for stay-cations, which so many of us are having due to the economy.  And, what a better way to economically scrap these events than to have it all in one package...or almost all.  

The Travel Light paper pack has not only three of each of the wonderful travel/vacation papers but stickers, a large shiny alpha and a page of the oh so popular little letters in three sizes.  The only things else I ordered were the layered tags, the layered words and a pack of the vintage tags.   

I used these products to scrap not one trip but three different ones and part of a stay-cation we recently had with friends from out of town.  Talk about a versitile line! Just look for yourself.

Last January, when our friend, Clare was visiting from New Zealand, Pam B flew into Tampa and the three of us drove to Anna Maria Island to pick up Janet M.  Thanks to Clare, we were bound for Captiva Island for three wonderous days of girlfriend fun.  While I have scrapped some of these photos with more tropical papers, the Travel Light line seemed so appropriate for the fact that is the last thing we did.

Recently, friends of ours from St. Louis, came for a week's visit.  We spent part of the time in Winter Park, Florida, a town about two hours away from ours where we had never been.  We stayed at a lovely historic hotel right on the main street and visited a museum, took a boat ride, ate at lots of wonderful restaurants recommended by a friend and had such fun.  

I collected brochures, admit tickets and other memorbilia during our visit.  I created this pocket page out of numerous papers and topped it off with the silvery bracket from the cover of the paper pack!  The variety of the papers in the pack and the additional layered words helped create a place in my album for things besides photos.

The rest of our visit with our friends was a stay-cation.  One day we rode the Jolly Trolley (a trolley that runs from our town down to Clearwater Beach and back on weekends) We had snacks at two beach side bar and grills there and worked our way back up to our town with stops along the way. 

I like to incorporate coasters and take out menus on these types of layouts.  A coating of an acrylic sealer or isolating these items that are most likely acidic from the photos is a way to protect the rest of the layout. 

Another part of our stay-cation included a visit to the newly built museum housing the Dali collection.  If the incredible art by Dali is not breathtaking enough, the building and the grounds which includes a labrynth is amazing as well.  I used two of the bookmarks we were given in the gift shop as the title for the layout and the papers from the Travel Light collection highlighted the photo and the book marks so nicely.

The final layout I completed with these wonderful products was to add yet another to my Med Cruise album from our trip a year ago.  I took so many pictures of the Acropolis in Athens, that I could probably do an entire album on just that location alone.  But, with time constaints what they are, I decided to print out my seven favorite views in wallet size and one slightly larger of my honey and me.  The layered photo corners from the layered tag set pulled the whole page together as did the journaling paper from the paper pack. 

So, stay-cation or away vacation, We R Memory Keepers' Travel Light line is versitile and economical.  Now I am off to scrap many more layouts with these wonderful papers.  Join me?

Paper Crafting With A Fair Day By SEI

The fair.  As children (and some of us adults!) those words strike joy and anticipation into our hearts.  I LOVE the fair.  The highlight of the summer with my kids is a day at our Wisconsin State Fair.  We have a standing tradition of dropping EVERYTHING for a day at the fair.  

It is intoxicating.  The food, the animals, the smells, the atmosphere.  Add in the rides for the kids, and the experience is a total treat!  When I saw the SEI A Fair Day line, I couldn’t wait to get started!  

I am not a theme scrapbooker, but I loved all the papers and the embellishments, and as usual - SEI didn’t disappoint.  The papers are thick and gorgeous.  Some are shimmery, in the typical SEI style, and others are double sided and versatile.

I did 4 layouts - three which are fair oriented, and one to show the versatility of the line.  I will do about 20 more layouts with this line, trust me!

First, is a layout of my oldest three children on a ride at our fair.  I was dying watching them, and soooo glad I was behind the camera!  I captured this shot as they were upside down…

 

The next layout is about a Bennett family favorite.  FOOD.  It was fun experimenting and trying new things.  The food papers are incredible!

 

We have a family tradition; on our way out of the fair, we ALWAYS get a blue raspberry snow cone.  The borders and papers were perfect for this!

I also did a layout to show that non-traditional layouts work well with this line.  Here is a layout (non-fair) of Delaney right after her 8th birthday. These papers are versatile and amazing!

My FAVORITE paper of the line is the perforated ticket paper.  There is no cutting involved, and the variety of tickets is wonderful. 

I totally love this line, and can't wait to scrap the hundred more fair pictures that I have!
